A Preference, An Orientation, and The Choice One Makes!
I am first and foremost a Christian, and believe in the sanctity of the marriage covenant. As a Christian, I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. After all, did not Jesus say, “From the beginning it was not so”? And what God has joined together, let not man put asunder? When I was first married, I married a woman. And if a man had asked me for his hand in marriage after my first wife passed away in 1989, I would have respectfully declined. As a Christian I live by the Bible and respect its laws on marriage.
I also live in America, and understand that as an American I abide by the laws of the Constitution of the United States. And the Constitution, as interpreted by the Supreme Court says that people of the same sex have a right to marry, and are entitled to all of the privileges and rights that the rest of us have. It does not say that I am obligated to marry another man, and if it did I would respectfully disobey it.
We must make a distinction between sexual preference, and sexual orientation. Sexual preference is a choice. Sexual orientation is not. It simply is what it is.
Let me be clear: I don’t have to get sick off of what others eat, and they don’t have to hitch their wagon to my star. Jesus is my leader and guide. He sad, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” If we all treated each other, whatever our race or religion, creed or color, or sexual orientation, we would be better off. And, I don’t know what others may choose to do, but for the time that I have left on this earth, that is exactly what I intend to do,
