Twelve Years and the Excitement Keeps Growing at Jerusalem!

Well, if you were headed down Dorr St. early Sunday evening, March 26th, it did not take much to see that something special was going on at the Jerusalem Baptist Church. And yes, something was going on that had the congregants and attendees excited and dressed to a tee to share in this time of great joy for the Pastor, members, and attendees. From all indication, everyone who entered the building had a sense of camaraderie that seemed to flow from pew to pew as the service of celebration progressed.

Jerusalem Baptist Church has been celebrating the life of a man whose last 12 years has been wholeheartedly immersed in the growth and leadership of a church with a rich history in the community. As many remember, Jerusalem has forthrightly served as a pillar in the community in reaching young people and assisting families through social programs under the leadership of the late Dr. Harry M. Crenshaw who left his legacy to be continued. Pastor Willie L. Perryman and Lady Monica Perryman walked in and did just that. The legacy continues. When one looks around and sees that the new sanctuary under the leadership of this man and woman, created a beautiful landscaped landmark on the corners of Dorr St. and Collingwood Blvd., one would say that this is a good thing!

Many cohorts in ministry celebrated the services with Jerusalem and Pastor Perryman. On February 3rd, Pastor John W. Williams and the Eastern Star Baptist Church were in fellowship with him. Sunday, March 12th at 10:45 AM, Pastor Royce Thompson of the New Friendship Baptist Church, Gary, In. were a part of the morning service, followed by Pastor Roger D. Carson and the Southern Baptist Church at 4 PM, along with the congregation and choir of Southern. The celebration continued and on March 19th at 10:45 AM, Pastor Milton French of the Second Temple Baptist Church, Buffalo, N. Y. blessed the congregants in Jerusalem's morning service. The evening service later that day was shouldered by the legendary St. Mark Baptist Church with the pioneer Pastor I. J. Johnson, who left his impression in the building as reported by the attendees.

This Now Jerusalem legacy has far reaching effects that dates back many years when Pastor Perryman was becoming and maturing on his way to where he is now. His years in ministry can be linked with his Father in the gospel who would follow Rev. Bernard Clayton, Pastor of Little Flock Baptist Church in Louisville, Ky. and Former Pastor of Friendly Baptist Church on Parkside Blvd here in the city on March 26 at 10:45 AM.

Pastor Perryman attributes his success in 37 years of preaching ministry, 25 years of Pastoral Ministry, and 12 years as Pastor at Jerusalem, to his Spiritual Father Pastor John E. Roberts of Indiana Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, who closed the celebration out at 4:00 PM. Pastor Perryman and Lady Monica both expressed their love, care, and support from the members of Jerusalem that has made their 12 year journey there as incomparable to any experience that they have had in leadership. Pastor stated that he is blessed to have watched and served 4 generations in Jerusalem and looks forward to what God has in store as the future generation helps to continue the legacy at Jerusalem. His intent is to continue to expand on the ministries that God has blessed them to embark upon at Jerusalem.

To God be the glory for a celebration that appears to have long standing impact upon the goers and attendees throughout the month. A great big hats off to Pastor Willie and Lady Monica for a job well done in the work that their hands are doing and will continue to do at Jerusalem. To the officers and members at Jerusalem, a job well done. May God bless you!
